Jayneen Sanders is the author of many of the books that I recommend to parents on how to talk about body safety and consent. As a teacher in the classroom and a mother of 3, she noticed that there was limited early childhood education happening around preventing inappropriate touch and she began writing and publishing books and resources for parents, caregivers and teachers on how to talk with children about body safety and empower them to establish bodily boundaries as well as how to speak up and tell an adult if someone is not respecting their body boundaries. I ask her about what it was like publishing her first book on body safety? Where she sees the overlap in sex education and body safety? How does she recommend parents to approach the topics of gender identity in young children? How can parents establish their own body boundaries with their kids?
